What is a favicon ?

A favicon is that little icon that is displayed in a web browser next to the website address (See the sample picture below,red arrows). The name favicon is a short form for for "Favourites Icon". Its called that because when your visitors add your site to their favourites list, then the favicon will also show up on their list making your site stand out.
